Enjoying a low tax rate in a safe, tight-knit community with a laudable school system, this town of about 12,000 has a lot to boast about. Driving along the main drag of Columbia Turnpike, you may think there are only strip malls and business centers, but tucked away there are tidy suburbs with a strong sense of community and volunteerism which every year culminates in the exceptional 4th of July celebration. ‘Florham’ is the combination of the names of two prominent citizens, Vanderbilt’s favorite grand-daughter, Florence, and her husband, Hamilton, who built one of America’s finest Gilded Age homes here in the late 1880’s, whereas ‘Park’ derives from the mansion built by one of the founders of Prudential, Brooklake Park, which is today a beautiful country club. The NFL New York Jets relocated their headquarters here in 2008, and players can be seen around town or working out at the Lifetime Fitness facility. Home to the College of Saint Elizabeth, it also hosts sections of two other university campuses, Drew and Fairleigh Dickinson. Last but not least, its closeness to neighboring Madison and Chatham offers the choice of two train stations with direct service to Midtown.
